We had a great time at the dance last night. However, we received some sad news. The woman who runs the dance, which is held once a month, is retiring and there will be no more dances. She has hosted these monthly dances for a little over twelve years. This dance is more for women who are in there forties or older. The last two New Year Eve’s dances we attended were packed! However, last night the crowd was noticeably smaller. We had attended the dance in November and found it to be smaller too. We aren’t sure why there are fewer people….the economy, people getting older, not enough word of mouth about the dance or any number of things. The woman who hosted the dance said she may host two dances a year, if we beg her hard enough! I am hoping she does.
We had an awesome time last night and met some new people. Sylvia doesn’t like to dance, but she doesn’t mind me dancing with others. Sylvia and I were able to hold hands, share a kiss, and just be close to each other without having to worry that someone would see and disapprove. I don’t live my life in a closet, but I know there are ignorant people out there who just might decide they don’t like thatwe are a gay couple and target us with violence. The dance was a safe place for us.
We live near a big city and there are gay bars, but both Sylvia and I are home bodies and really don’t like the bar scene. There are much younger women there too and we have each other, we aren’t looking for a girlfriend/partner. We will just have to plan more get togethers with our friends to either to play games or eat dinner, or whatever else we decide we may want to do.
We got home around 1:00 last night and tried to sleep. Jack was still up and decided he needed a 2:00 am snack and woke us up. TEENAGE BOYS! They do love to eat. We slept in to about 9:00 this morning and had an easy day. Ethan had fallen asleep on the floor last night and we had moved him to his bed. He was up early, but made his own breakfast and was QUIET for a change!
I am looking forward to 2013 and another year with Sylvia!
